Patient associations

Patient associations look after the interest of patients and their next of kin. The following is a list of patient associations in the Faroe Islands:

ADHD association

The purpose of the ADHD association is:

  • To work for the benefit of those diagnosed with ADHD
  •          To provide parents, relatives and people with ADHD a chance to socialize with others with ADHD
  •          To shed light on ADHD
  •          To work for optimal possibilities for people with ADHD
  •          To work for collaboration between parents, relatives, institutions, doctors, schools, workplaces and others, that work with people with ADHD
  •          To follow up on newest studies and treatments
  •          To participate in Nordic collaborations
  •          To ensure that offers are made for people with ADHD and their relatives

 

Alzheimers association

The purpose of the Alzheimers association is:

  • Support and help those with dementia and their relatives
  •  Inform and educate about dementia related illnesses
  •  Inform and collaborate with politicians, other authorities and institutions
  • Support relevant studies and development within this area
  • Defend the legal rights of those with Alzheimers
  • To partake in global collaborations

Arthritis association

The purpose of this association is to provide information about arthritis related diseases and the consequences of those, and to work for better treatment options. Read more on www.gikt.fo

Asthmatic and Allergy association

The purpose of this association is to inform and work for better treatment options for those with asthma and/or allergies, and to maintain a collaboration between all that work with people that are asthmatic or/and allergic.

Autism association

The autism association is a group of interest for those with autism and for those who, in any way, care for people with autism. Read more on Autismufelagið (autisma.fo)

Blindness association

The purpose of this association is to educate those that are blind, both in handy works and spiritually, and to provide informative activies in their community.

Celiac association

Cerebral Hemorrhage association

The purpose of this association is to provide information about apoplexy and aphasia and to support those affected and their relatives.

Cerebral Paresa association

CP Faroe Islands wants to be informative and supportive with regards to CP – for the benefit of the individual with CP, their families and professionals around them. Colitis-Crohn association

Deafness association

The purpose of this association is to carry out all interests of deaf people on all areas, prior and after school age. Read more on www.deaf.fo

Diabetics association

The association for diabetics works to support the interests of those with diabetes and to provide information, consultation and education about diabetics and the terms of those with diabetes. Read more on www.diabetes.fo

Epileptic association

The association’s purpose is to supports epileptics and to better their circumstandes and their relatives, and to inform about epilepsy. Read more on Heim (epilepsi.fo)

Faroese Cancer Society

Was established in January 1979 under the name Association Against Cancer and has its sole purpose in supporting those with cancer and their relatives. Read more on www.krabbamein.fo

Heart Disease association

The Heart Diseases association’s purpose is the lower the frequency of heart related diseases in the Faroe Islands. The laws of the association describe the purposes as follows:

- To inform and provide guidance about heart related diseases and to urge for preventions of those, by supporting and initiating health promotive upbringing.

- To care for the interests of those with heart related diseases.

- To support scientific studies of diseases of the heart and blood flow, the consequences, prevention thereof and treatments.

- To represent the Faroe Islands in international associations with related purposes.

Intellectual Disability association

The purpose of Javni, the retardation association, is to work for equal rights for all affected by retardation in the Faroe Islands. Read more on www.javni.fo

Kidney association

The purpose of this association is to support the interests of those with kidney diseases and the dialysis patients and transplant patients, and to provide information and education about kidney diseases.

The purpose of this association is to provide help for those affected by Morbus Bechterew and to help spread knowledge about the illness.

Parkinson association

The main purpose of this association is to inform about the disease and to give patients and their relatives a community with other like them. To better the circumstances of people with Parkinsons disease and to provide support for scientific studies in this area and aswell as participating in European collaborations. The purpose of this association is to inform and educate about psoriasis and to work for better treatment options.

Reduced Hearing association

HOYR is a group of interest for people with reduced hearing abilities, their relatives and other of interest in the Faroe Islands.

Sclerosis association

Society for Prevention of Mental Illness

This association was established in 1982 with the purpose to work for better circumstances, equal rights and to ensure equal chances for all people with mental issues and their relatives. Read more on Sinnisbati.

Stuttering association

The purpose of this association is to help those who stutter and to inform about relevant treatments.
